In 2010, an historic school voucher bill passed the Illinois Senate. In the House, Roger Eddy and the teacher unions made sure enough downstate Republicans voted to kill it.

In the Wall Street Journal, William McGurn delivered the post-mortem…
“In the 19th century, Illinois was the land of Lincoln. In the 20th century, it was the birthplace of Ronald Reagan. In the 21st, Illinois has given us a new breed of Republican: Roger Eddy.”

For the past sixteen years in Hutsonville, Roger Eddy has been the superintendent of schools. Since 2003, he has also been an elected state representative.

Roger Eddy is raking in $283,520 in cash and non-cash compensation.

Roger Eddy works the system well. Funded by well over $80,000 of teacher union campaign cash, Eddy spearheads new ways to hike taxes, hike spending and constrain citizen access to government information.

• In 2007, Eddy was one of only two Republicans voting for the income tax/property tax swap “for education” (SB750): $7 billion of tax hike, only $2 billion of savings. The Belleville News-Democrat quoted Eddy, “If it takes an income tax increase, it takes an income tax increase.”

• In April, 2011 watch here as Eddy attempts to “sell” blue Madison County on a sales tax hike/phantom property tax cut “for school construction.” Voters rejected it, 81-19!

• In May, 2011, Eddy voted to severely curtail citizen access to public information, HB1716.

For The Good of Illinois PAC encouraged a very strong Republican County Chairman to challenge Roger Eddy in the Republican primary. In six days, volunteers helped gather 1500 petition signatures.

Roger Eddy’s disrespect for taxpayers is not new; this is old news.

Join us. You must be the future of Illinois. It’s time to end the corruptions.

[…] Brad Halbrook is running against a long-time political insider making over $283,500 at taxpayer expense.  Please see for yourself, here.  The Chicago Teachers Union, the Illinois Federation of Teachers, and the Illinois Education Association have directly “sponsored” this opponent with over $153,392 in campaign cash since 2001. This is why the opponent generally promotes higher taxes, higher spending and increased bureaucracy.  For examples, please click here. […]
